Benterra was founded by three partners — one Emirati and two Yemeni — who share a single conviction: that the world's most storied coffee origin deserves to be represented with the same care it took to grow.

Our two Yemeni cofounders carry generational relationships with the farming families of Haimi, Harazi, and Khawlani. These are not commercial supplier contracts. They are relationships built over years, often across generations of the same family. That trust is the foundation of everything Benterra sources, and it is the reason we can stand behind every lot we sell.

Benterra means Bean Territory. We chose it because Yemen is the original territory of coffee — the place where it all began.

Long before the cafés of Europe, before the plantations of South America, before the global trade routes, coffee was being cultivated in the Yemeni highlands. To carry that lineage in our name is both a tribute and a responsibility.

Coffee has been farmed in the Yemeni mountains for over 500 years. But that heritage is under quiet threat. Across Yemen, many farmers have abandoned coffee in favor of qat — a high-demand narcotic plant that delivers faster, easier returns. Every year, more coffee fields are uprooted and replaced.

Benterra works exclusively with the farms that have chosen otherwise. These are families who have refused to walk away from coffee, even when the economics pushed them toward qat. They have protected something fragile, and they have done it through halal, sustainable production that proves tradition and prosperity can coexist.

When you buy Benterra, you are not just buying coffee. You are choosing a side in a quiet, decades-long contest over what Yemen's mountains will grow next.

We source directly. No middlemen, no anonymous origins, no shortcuts. The relationships our cofounders carry into Benterra mean we can trace every lot back to the farm and the family that grew it.

From there, we either supply green coffee to specialty roasteries around the world, or we roast it ourselves for retail customers who want to experience these terroirs in their own home.
